We are glad to announce the names of the artsts who will participate in DEFAULT Masterclass in Residence: On Art, Cities and Regeneration that will take place from 21st to 30th September 2011 in Lecce (Italy).
Applicants were asked to present a project on the topic of “shared memory” and renewed spaces. An international committee of art professionals has selected 10 international and 10 Italian artists (7 from Apulia region) to participate in the residence. DEFAULT Masterclass is conceived to be a platform to discuss, imagine and put forward sustainable ideas about how art can interact with the regeneration of former industrial spaces. During the ten days of residency, participants will develop their research approach thanks to intense workshops and seminar sessions held by leading curators and artists, art managers and representatives of cultural and artistic organizations of the European and the Mediterranean area. The invited lecturers are: Lewis Biggs (Biennial of Liverpool), Celine Condorelli (artist), Andrea Lissoni (Xing and Hangar Bicocca), Julia Draganovic (No Longer Empty), Alfredo Cramerotti (curator, AGM and director of Mostyn Gallery), Yesomi Umolu (curator, AGM), Hannah Conroy (curator, AGM), Andrei Siclodi (Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen), Ana Hoffner (artist), Paolo Mele (Ramdom), Pietro Gaglianò (art critic), Filipa Ramos (curator and art critic), Emiliano Paoletti (Bjcem).

The programme of workshops, lectures and panels will be enriched by several fringe events. Among these, Default’s party and Artlab 2011 closing event which will take place on 24th September at Archiviazioni. The scenery will be occasion for site-specific installations and audiovisual experiences investigating the issues of mobility and border. The indoor and outdoor space will host the first Italian solo show by turkish artist Devrim Kadirbeyoglu (curated by Giusy Checola, coproduced by Ramdom and Archiviazioni), the site-specific installation by artist Luca Coclite and the music performance by Gianluca De Rubertis (Il Genio) and Alberto Piccinni, following DJ set. On Thursday, 22nd September - h.18.00, public panel entitled “Paesaggio con figura. Arts, public opinion and social transformation”. On Sunday, 25th September - h.18.30, Default will open its doors to everyone with “Apertivo in residenza”: a meeting and debate opportunity hosting cultural and art organisations, Default’s artists and guests. Default meets Artlab
ArtLab11 partnering with DEFAULT Masterclass: the cultural community gathers in Lecce
Fondazione Fitzcarraldo (Turin) is organising, from September 22 to 24, the 6th edition of its annual meeting on cultural management ArtLab-Dialogues about Cultural Management. Since 2006, ArtLab has been a unique debate oppurtunity where artists, cultural managers, researchers and decision makers have shared their experiences about the state of art of cultural management in Italy and in the international ground. In 2011, ArtLab's overall programme foresees several international events focused on cross-border cultural and artistic mobility, co-production and cooperation, community interventions and development through arts and culture, paying especially attention to the Mediterranean area. Beside the official Artlab programme, an advanced training workshop, focused on fundraising strategies in the cultural field, is scheduled in Lecce, on 20th-22nd September. A registration fee is foreseen.
