Agnieszka Hubeny-Żukowska designing gardens involved in more than 15 years. Practice in the profession began in the UK for several years working in Poland. Dense plantings, perennials, balanced colors, environmental solutions and functionality - these are the features characterizing its projects. A few days ago the Italian Como received the prestigious award in A'design Award & Competition 2015-2016 - the greatest designer in the world competition, awarding prizes in several categories. She received her garden design unfolding in the area over 2000 sq. M, around one of the wrzeszczańskich villa. In the interview she told us about the trends governing the world of gardens.

Olga Miłogrodzka: What gardens - with those that you had the opportunity to see - had on you the most?(purple formal dresses)

Agnieszka Hubeny-Żukowska: There are several, very different from each other. I was lucky to watch Garden Space Speculation in unusual circumstances. Belongs to the Scottish estate of Charles Jencks. It can be visited only once a year. We managed to enter it early in the morning, before it flooded the wave of the interested parties. Rising sun, lawns were covered with dew. They create enormous garden green, geometrically shaped hills, interspersed with ponds. It lacks any plant. The whole is one big sculpture called. Land Art. As Alice in Wonderland, I felt in the garden with giant, pięćsetletnimi topiarami - yew sculptures high on five or six meters. My favorite are also gardens Pieta Oudolfa - Dutch designer green. He, in turn, raging planting plants, mostly perennials, grasses are often used. It maintains a balance between the structure of horizontal and vertical. Such chaos of thought-out color tone manages gigantic spaces. They are like the wilderness, like a meadow. It does exactly what it now on top.

What are the global trends currently govern the world of gardens?

The strong trend is the creation in the corners of the garden for insects. In our notoriously mown, empty lawns - which in themselves are not very ecological, they require intensive irrigation - or bees or butterflies or other insects have no chance to survive. Superczyste, sleek gardens, without urticaria and rotten pieces of wood, contribute to the fact that some insects, especially in the cities, just killed. And as they do not exist, there are pests, which disrupts the balance of nature. Therefore, we begin to remember that not only is it we live in this world. More often planted in gardens melliferous plants, creates a place where small animals - such as hedgehogs. - Will be able to hide. Garden without insects, birds, small animals is not a garden full. Garden should be teeming with life.

Fashion is also currently perceived by many plants as weeds, or plant local native who feel good in the region. In my own example. I firletki grow, which I bought in a hardware store, but the pond - a few meters away - occur naturally. Before designing the garden always pay attention to what grows around that there feels good. The idea is that the garden is not zwozić exotic plants, such at which we have to constantly run, but such that there will adapt.

My motto is functional garden and one that brings joy. If you treat yourself to a garden exhibition, where every two days we will have to run, will not be made fun. And that's the point, that the garden was the owner of respite. If the plants will be in him a well responsive, we will too.

Is Polish gardens differ from these trends?

The Polish gardens all the time dominated by conifers. It is unique in the world. Personally, I do not like them. Garden shrub and can be decorative in winter, but at other times of the year looks exactly the same. It's boring. Plants zimo-green treat only as a structure, eg. To separate the interior garden, are a great background, fill them while dense plantings - shrubs and perennials that overlook some of the others. Garden thanks to this combination is full of color, he will live the whole year: winter, early spring, then the spring, summer - always something different will it flourished, will change its face, dead. In the morning - when some of the flowers buds are still closed - will be different than in the evening.

I do not understand a fashion rhododendrons, particularly in new housing estates, where - let's face it - do not give each other advice. Rhododendrons are plants undergrowth, they like to grow under the canopy, where there is moisture in the air, where the sun does not directly handle in a light partial shade, where no wind blows. Sopot, Oliwa - these are the places. While empty, a new housing estate on the outskirts of the city - not really.(http://www.dressesmallau.co/pink-formal-dresses-c189/)

Another "sin" Polish gardens is emptiness. Putting hedge shrubs are planted at a distance of several meters. Then they stand as such candlesticks. For what purpose? We żywotniki planted in small distances, at 0.6 m, in order to be then cut to form therewith a single, coherent green wall. In the case of flowers it is the same. Handmade single pieces, widely scattered - three yellow, two red, two orange, and that's it. We like such a "collectors' gardens. I'm the opposite - I prefer dense planting. It is not only nice, but also practical - thick mattress of green weeds creates miserable conditions for growth, and even if some of it appears, lost in the thicket of other plants.

A few days ago you received your prize in the A'design Award & Competition 2015-2016, in the category of "Planning and design of the gardens." Highlighted garden also won first prize in the competition Polish Landscape 2015 Internet voting in the category of private gardens. Please tell us about this project.

Garden is a historic villa in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz, on three levels with a total area of 2 500 m2. It combines several trends. It is elegant, classic, but you see it as a garden inspired by English and Japanese.

At the lowest level - from the street - there is a roundabout around which diverge centric green belts. They are formed of low boxwood hedges parted mixed plantings with perennials and seasonal crops. Over the composition of towering high cut row of lime trees. It also planted birch "Doorenbos" and Ian funki Siebold. Along the back of the building appears boxwood cut in geometric forms and cienioznośne perennials. In the spring the main attraction are the thousands - literally thousands - colored tulips, and daffodils and pansies. Then gradually they appear funk tawułki, Siberian irises and anemones.

The second level of the garden is located on the flat roof garage and other rooms. He has developed two gazebos, a small lawn of the hole golf course and a small interior stylized garden east. We filled it with bamboos, evergreen azaleas, tawułami Japanese funkiami, kopytnikiem and epimedium. No shortage of water features. There are stairs leading to the top part of the garden. The third terrace is a small shaded lawn and woodland garden, which stretches up to a large, centuries-old oak.

What is important, on the plot we found some old, valuable trees. Apart from oak eg. Maple and mountain ash Swedish. All have been incorporated in the new design. Only one tree we could not keep - red beech, which is a natural monument. Unfortunately, it proved to be ill, he had before him the best five years of age. He planted the tree of the same species. Young beech at this point is more than 7 meters high.
