Want your wedding to be a multiday experience you can share with your closest family and friends? Then a destination wedding is right for you. Your guests will love getting away for a few days to celebrate your nuptials, but those travel costs can add up. So when you’re booking flights and hotels, should you cover the travel costs of anyone else who is attending? Here’s what our experts have to say.

If you have room in your budget, covering the costs for your VIPs is a great way to thank them for celebrating with you. Arranging their airfare might be complicated and super pricey (especially if they’re flying from all over the country), but you might want to consider paying for their hotel rooms while they’re with you. Better yet? If the property has suites available or you’re booking through a site like Airbnb, pick a lodging option with plenty of room for everyone. That could be a spot for your parents and siblings, or a condo with ample space for the entire bridal party.

When it comes to the rest of your guests, there’s no expectation that you cover their costs. (Though, of course, if it fits in your budget or you’re having a smaller celebration, by all means!) A few touches, however, will make everyone feel really welcome. Arrange for transportation to get your guests from the airport to the property where you’ll all be staying. If you’ve got lodging set up in multiple places, make sure shuttles are taken care of to get guests where they need to go, particularly to and from your ceremony and reception. And even if you can’t host the food and drinks all weekend, consider having a rehearsal dinner where everyone’s invited. Yes, it’s one more meal to pay for, but having everyone included in the big moments means more memories for the two of you—and a little less burden on your guests.
