Digital Life Academy Announces Extension of Application Deadline Due to Strong Demand
SINGAPORE, June 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
- Academy Has Received Over 15,000 Enquiries and Applications from over 50 Countries
- United States is Underrepresented - "I Know Young Americans Care About Privacy, Ownership and Control, so Where Are They?" says Academy Sponsor
The Digital Life Academy today announced that it is extending the application deadline for the 2011 session from Sunday 5 June to Friday 10 June. Due to a surge in applications as the deadline approaches, the Academy has decided to extend the deadline to allow those who have recently been made aware of it to apply.
The Digital Life Academy is a global think tank of people ages 16-25 who are interested in the areas of online privacy, data and content ownership, content monetization and similar topics. The Academy is comprised of 30 individuals from 20 countries, who meet for a 6-week period annually. Academy selection is based on the individuals demonstrating entrepreneurial drive, business acumen, and a dedication to addressing the concept of digital life freedom.
"The interest in this first edition of the Academy has been beyond our expectations," said Johan Stael von Holstein, CEO of MyCube, an Academy sponsor. "It is clear that young people across the world are passionate about online privacy, and ownership and control of their digital assets and lives. The only disappointment to date is that although we have had a few outstanding applicants from the United States, the total number of applications from the U.S. is disproportionately low. I know young Americans are avid social network users and genuinely care about privacy, ownership and control and I encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to help change the way we live our lives online."
The Academy will run from 4 July to 12 August 2011 at MyCube's headquarters in Singapore. Academy members receive free flights, free housing and a $3,000 Singapore dollar stipend.
Academy members will develop position papers, editorials, articles and business ideas related to the core Academy concepts of online privacy, ownership and control. After the program session, members will continue to serve as spokespeople for the Academy and will help to select and mentor future members.
