Four Types of Spread Bets Offered by City Index

LONDON, October 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

Recently voted 'Best Online Spread Betting Service' at the 2011 MoneyAM Finance Awards, City Index ( offers traders a range of options for their financial trading. Read on to learn more about rolling spreads, monthly futures, quarterly futures and day trades.

Rolling Spread Bets

For traders seeking tight spreads with no expiry date, rolling spread bets are the natural choice. Subject to margin terms, trades will automatically roll over each night with a small overnight finance charge. Rolling spread bets tend to suit day or short-term traders, who will often avoid overnight finance charges due to the quick fire nature of their trading.

Monthly Futures Spread Bets

Monthly futures incur wider spreads than rolling spread bets. With a fixed monthly expiry date, there is no overnight finance charge applied and positions can be rolled over to the following month as they approach expiry. Traders can also choose to close trades before they expire. Short to medium-term traders often opt for monthly futures spread bets, as they fit the timeframe those traders tend to operate in.

Quarterly Futures Spread Bets

Medium to long-term traders generally gravitate towards quarterly futures spread bets, primarily for their fixed quarterly expiry date. As with monthly futures, positions can be closed ahead of expiry or rolled over to the next quarter. Quarterly futures tend to give the widest spreads and require no overnight finance charge.

Day Trade Spread Bets

Exclusively available to City Index clients, Day Trades spread bets are available on the top 20 UK equity markets only. They offer 20% tighter spreads and 50% lower margins than regular markets. With no rollover option and consequently no overnight risk, day trade spread bets expire at the end of day unless you choose to close them beforehand.
