GeoPlace Wins Best Project Delivery at UK Public Sector Digital Awards

[24-January-2012]

LONDON, January 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

GeoPlace is honoured to be one of two winners of the Best Project Delivery category at the 2011 UK Public Sector Digital Awards for the development and delivery of the National Address Gazetteer Database.  GeoPlace was presented the award alongside Surrey County Council for their separate e-safeguarding project.

The award was presented by Joe Harley, CBE, CIO, for the UK Government and CIO and Director General for the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).  The prestigious awards ceremony - the primary technology awards event for the public sector - celebrates excellence in ICT enabled service delivery across all sectors of government.  There were eleven categories in total covering current IT innovation and best practice technology implementation at all levels of government.

GeoPlace is a public sector limited liability partnership between the Local Government Association and Ordnance Survey.  Combining data from local authorities, Ordnance Survey, the Valuation Office and Royal Mail, the aim of the National Address Gazetteer Database is to provide one definitive source of publicly owned spatial address data.

Gary Flood, editor of PublicTechnology.net and one of the judges said of the GeoPlace entry "The judges were impressed by the sheer size of the challenge faced, which involved synchronising more than 150 million records from 5 primary data feeds."

Richard Mason, Managing Director at GeoPlace said "Production of this database clearly demonstrates the capability of local government and Ordnance Survey collaborating together through the joint venture - GeoPlace.  There are few other public sector infrastructure projects in existence on this scale, able to deliver regular updates of information from local authorities to end users.  The development of the project to include the richness of local knowledge from local government and the additional intelligence from our central government partners results in a product which is of national importance."

Addressing the audience at the awards ceremony at London's Guildhall, the Right Honourable Nick Clegg MP, Deputy Prime Minister said: "The UK Public Sector Digital Awards showcase the talent and innovation that - quite frankly - don't always get the attention they deserve: talent and innovation that revolutionise the way we deliver services, giving the UK's public sector a world class online presence and helping millions of people."
