Belgium Not Affected by Schlecker Insolvency

EHINGEN, Germany, February 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

The German retail chemist company Schlecker went into administration last week. Anton Schlecker Gesellschaft m.b.H. in Belgium is not affected by the insolvency. Schlecker's foreign operations are independently run and profitable.

The restructuring measures necessary at Schlecker in Germany could not be implemented within the time schedule set, and planned interim financing could not be found. Further restructuring will now be continued as part of the insolvency proceedings. In this, Schlecker is seeking an insolvency plan procedure and the retention of the company as a whole. At the moment, agreement has been reached with the key suppliers, ensuring that business operations can be continued without restrictions. This was announced at a press conference.

Anton Schlecker Gesellschaft m.b.H. in Belgium is an independent company and is not affected by the process currently underway in Germany. Agreement was reached quickly with key suppliers, so that the supply of goods in Belgium is also secured. Operations will continue as before. Furthermore, no notable branch closures or redundancies for operational reasons are to be anticipated in Belgium.

Schlecker has been undergoing comprehensive restructuring since the middle of 2010, and has already introduced a large number of measures. The insolvency manager was positive about the company's prospects for the future.
