Visions of Vancouver, Canada

Stories in the Digital Age

Pi Theatre is examining what it means to be a Vancouverite and re-inventing theatre for our digital age with Visions of Vancouver - with four short audio dramas written by Vancouver's most exciting contemporary playwrights: Dennis Foon, Kevin Loring, Adrienne Wong, and Michele Riml with Michael St. John Smith. In this series of new plays each writer expresses their unique vision of Vancouver.

The plays were recorded live in October 2011 and are now available, for a limited time, for free of charge streaming or download from the Pi Theatre website:

"It's about Vancouver, about this place we live in… and how it affects us. The history, the geography, the people: everything that makes us who we are as Vancouverites." - Hummingbird604

"Amazing work! I highly recommend this show" - Pippa Mackie

"Visions of Vancouver is funny, moving and most importantly RELEVANT theatre!" - CiTR Arts Report

Adrienne Wong's Elevate is the bittersweet, often funny story of Sal, a young woman struggling to find community in an anonymous downtown condo tower, written by the Artistic Producer of Neworld Theatre.

The Bridge  by Michele Riml and Michael St. John Smith, is the story of four people whose lives intersect on the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge. This is the first writing collaboration for Riml, the writer behind the smash hits Poster Boys and Sexy Laundry and her husband, actor Michael St. John Smith.

The Dead Line  is Dennis Foon's light look at death and the future. Cory has been diagnosed with Red Tide Virus and is using new technology to speak to the dead. He desperately seeks answers from his family, his friends and the famous deceased in this quirky comedy from the writer behind The New Canadian Kid and the award-winning screenplay Life Above All.

The Thin Veneer  is Kevin Loring's response to the 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup riots. This profoundly beautiful play investigates the nature of who we are as Vancouverites.  This is Loring's first play since the Governor General Award Winning Where the Blood Mixes.

The cast includes:  The Canada Reads winning author of Something Fierce, Carmen Aguirre, Shaker Paleja, Jennifer Mawhinney and Patrick Keating. Directed by Richard Wolfe.
