Three Italian Friends Share $250,000 Mega Millions Windfall at Congalotto
LONDON, April 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --
Syndicate had played USA national lottery for just 3 months
Three low-paid education employees from Italy shared a $250,000 prize in last month's world record Mega Millions lottery draw, having played the USA national game via the Congalotto lottery website for just three months.
In an uncanny reflection of the three co-workers from a school in Maryland, who shared $218 million in the historic draw, the Italian winners all work in the same team at their local village school. After playing together in Italy's SuperEnalotto national lottery for 12 years, they decided to broaden their horizons a little and, since January this year, they've shared three Mega Millions tickets for each draw, purchased through Congalotto.
"In 12 years playing SuperEnalotto we'd won the odd €100 here and there, and then just three months into playing Mega Millions this happens. I still can't take it in!" said Carluccio B, one of the lucky trio, who works as a maintenance technician at the school. "It may not be enough to retire on, but I'll be treating my grandchildren and taking my wife on a cruise for our 40th wedding anniversary."
Carluccio was flown to the USA after matching all five main numbers in the draw and a team from Congalotto helped him to claim the second tier prize on behalf of the trio. Having never been further than Rome, the trip itself was the adventure of a lifetime, although nowhere near as exciting as the reception he got when he returned home with the cheque.
It is estimated that more than 200,000 overseas lottery fans were able to play the world record Mega Millions draw, with many getting their tickets through the Congalotto website.
