BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, May 28, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Over 200 new jobs to be created for Barbadians and $65 million injected into the economy

Karib Cable has announced that it will build a world-class telecommunications network in Barbados. Karib Cable will design, build, and operate a fiber-optic network, offering faster broadband Internet access, cable television and fixed line telephone service.

The provider currently operates in 3 countries and 7 islands spanning a large portion of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States and catering to over 50,000 regional customers. The company is set to provide services to both corporate and residential Barbadian customers and will make its offering possible via one (1) cable, which can provide all three (3) services namely, Internet, cable television and fixed line telephony.

"Karib's leading edge fiber optic technology will provide a best-in-class infrastructure for all Barbadians. Moreover, the new network will enhance Barbados' reputation as being one of world's pre-eminent international business centers. By improving our telecommunications network, Barbados will improve its ability to attract, win and sustain investment for Barbados," said Wayne Kirton, CEO of Invest Barbados.

Karib has also promised upwards of 200 new jobs, and an investment of $65 million Barbados dollars into the economy, both of which are key components of the government's vision for the further development of the country. The plant will be set up and run by Barbadian nationals who will possess an intimate knowledge of the Barbados market, its culture and the people.
