Yelp Launches in Finland
- The final piece of Yelp's Nordic puzzle slots into place
HELSINKI, June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Yelp Inc. (NYSE: YELP), the company that connects consumers with great local businesses, today announced the availability of Yelp Finland (http://www.yelp.fi). Beginning today, Finns are able to create accounts on Yelp.fi to share their opinions about great local businesses and services. Yelp's free iPhone and Android applications have also been made available in Finland, as well as its free suite of business owner tools: Yelp for Business Owners (http://biz.yelp.fi).
"We are pleased to bring Yelp to Finland and complete the final piece of our Nordic puzzle," said Miriam Warren, Vice President of New Markets. "As the World Design Capital of 2012, Helsinki in particular is a vibrant and diverse urban environment that we feel is ideally suited to host, entertain and grow its own Yelp community. Finland is also one of the few countries in the world whose land area is still growing, by almost seven square kilometers a year, meaning there will always be a new bit of Finland for Yelpers to find, experience and share."
The site supports Finnish, Norwegian, Danish, Swedish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, English, and Spanish, providing users access to local insights in any one of these languages. Finland is the seventeenth country to host a dedicated Yelp community, the fourteenth in Europe, as the company continues to deliver on its international growth strategy.
While available throughout Finland, Yelp will focus its initial community building efforts in Helsinki -- a city-by-city approach that the company has used to launch in markets throughout the world.
