Brits spend 16 billion pounds Sterling on trips they feel obliged to take
- Spending on weddings, stag and hen dos falls 35%
LONDON, July 10,Â 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Brits are spending 16 billion poundsÂ on trips they feel obliged to take, such as weddings, stag and hen dos and family celebrations, a survey(1) by discount travel website Hotwire.comÂ® has revealed.Â In the last twelve months Brits spent on average 466.80 pounds per person on obligation trips, accounting for almost a quarter (24%) of their annual travel budget(2).Â
However, the survey also found that whilst people are spending significant sums on trips they feel they have to take, spending on weddings, stag and hen dos is significantly lower than in previous years.Â The cost of travel and accommodation to attend weddings has fallen 40% from an average 222 pounds(3) per person in 2011 to 131 poundsÂ per person. Men are spending 35% less on travel and accommodation for stag dos, just 78.20 poundsÂ on average in the last year.
On average Brits took two obligation trips in the last 12 months using 4 days ofÂ annual leave to attend weddings, stag and hen dos and other family celebrations.
