Top Three Best-Value Holiday Destinations

[30-July-2012]

LONDON, July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

Staycation has been a buzzword for many penny-pinching Brits over the last few years, but the reality is that they're missing out on the real bargains to be had in value-for-money countries like Spain and Portugal.

Many British holidaymakers are choosing to spend their holidays at home in an attempt to save money in difficult times. As Thomas Cook's helpful infographic "Should I Staycation or Should I Go" shows, however, that they may be losing money - and time in the sun - by doing so.

The top three best-value destinations - based on prices in resorts - are Spain, Portugal and Tunisia. And with the strength of the Euro dropping against the Pound, those heading to short-haul European getaways could find that their spending money stretches a lot further.

Prices of day-to-day and household goods in the UK are considerably higher than elsewhere in Europe, and splashing out on a holiday to Portugal where prices are low, could actually save you money compared to a UK-based trip. Many canny holidaymakers are booking an Algarve break as opposed to a vacation in an English resort, and are enjoying savings on daily essentials. In Portugal, visitors can expect to pay almost half as much for many holiday essentials as they would in the UK.

With the euro currently weak against the pound, many British holidaymakers abroad are taking the opportunity to save on their holiday costs. Whereas a three-course meal works out at around £10.14 per person in Spain, average costs in the UK are almost twice that amount. When applied to a family of four, this could save a huge amount of money, and more than enough to cover the cost of flights. Thomas Cook also offer a number of Spain holiday tips online. These offer practical ways for holidaymakers to try and save money.

People looking for low-cost breaks away should always contact their travel advisor and consider whether holidays in Benidorm for example, traditionally a popular spot for UK holidaymakers, could cost them less than a break at Butlins. Before booking a holiday, make sure you tot up all costs involved to make sure you're getting the best value for money.

As the nation tightens its belts, more and more British holidaymakers are choosing to book all-inclusive holidays. With everything included - and no hidden costs - an all-inclusive trip allows you to budget for the perfect break in advance, and do nothing but relax once you arrive!
