For many people with disabilities, especially when travelling, "handicapped accessibility" is just a catch phrase far removed from reality. In the Styrian vacation region of Schladming-Dachstein, the organization "Freizeit Para-Special-Outdoorsports" (Freizeit-PSO) shows how people with handicaps can enjoy a vacation that also includes sports, adventure, and lots of fun. German Falko Nettekoven suffers from multiple sclerosis and can only walk 100 meters. Even so, he has just managed to successfully complete a via ferrata climb here in the Dachstein mountains.
"I simply want to redefine my limits," says the 59-year-old Cologne native. "Despite my illness, I can still accomplish many things. I am unbelievably happy and proud to have experienced such an adventure in nature." In close cooperation with the tourist office, Freizeit-PSO has been clearing as many "vacation obstacles" as possible out of the way. In regard to handicapped accessibility, Schladming is increasingly developing into a flagship destination.
True to the motto "There's no such word as 'impossible'", people with handicaps can experience exciting rafting tours, rock-climbing, high-ropes courses, hiking, diving, and horseback riding during their accessible vacation with Freizeit-PSO. Holidaymakers are professionally assisted by the Freizeit-PSO team, consisting of trained outdoor sports and mountain guides, and diving instructors. If needed, specialized equipment for people with handicaps is provided >>
