Canary Islands - Increasingly Popular Destination for the United Kingdom

The Canary Islands is working hard to attract tourists from the United Kingdom, after studies have shown that the country has consolidated its position as one of the main suppliers of tourists in recent years. The latest figures gathered by Promotur in 2013 show that of the total number of British tourists who travel abroad, 37.8% visit the Canaries.

The climate, relaxation and the natural appeal of the islands and their volcanoes are the main reasons for British tourists to visit. With an average stay of 9.2 days tourists from the UK account for 29.6% of visitors, with couples being the most common types of tourists, followed by families (11%).

In terms of preferences for the 7 islands on the archipelago, British tourists favour Tenerife firstly (more than 11%), followed by Lanzarote (nearly 7%), with Gran Canaria in third place (3.6%), according to the figures on tourist distribution by island.
