Smart Thinking for Children

LONDON, July 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

CUBiC Magazine is a new monthly publication to spark children's minds, with each edition containing a mixture of Maths, English and creative thinking.

Maths tasks are mostly based on real-world examples - for instance, working out how many buttons to order at a dress factory. We are also pioneering "Ninja Maths" which asks the reader to solve simple algebraic additions and multiplications quickly, and to "feel" the numbers in their heads as they solve each sum.

The English exercises include creative writing and working out tenses and sentence structure. For example, in the launch copy there is a simple graphic of a person walking up a hill. The reader is asked to write a story about the person in the picture, thinking about who they are, where they have come from, where they are going and why.

Creative thinking is fostered by asking the reader open questions, which the reader can think about, rather than having to write down specific answers. For example,"What does having fun mean to you?" which is accompanied with a full-page spread of a boy skimming a stone across a lake.

The magazine has been designed using strong, plain colours and treats the 8+ reader with respect rather than trying to engage them using animal characters and cheap tricks.

Each edition has an installment of the story ROCK ROAD, which is about three children living in Cornwall to get involved in mysteries and adventures.

Not all exercises have one specific answer, but for those which do, they are answered on the website, which also hosts a regular stream of quick and interesting exercises and thought-provoking questions for children.
