AMD Displays Technology Leadership withNew AMD Xilleon™ Panel Processors for Outstanding LCD TV Image Quality

— AMD and Samsung Collaborate toBring The Ultimate Visual Experience™ to Life in New Large-Panel LCD TVs—

SUNNYVALE, Calif. Jan. 7, 2008 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) todayunveiled a new family of AMD Xilleon™ panel processors designed toprovide unrivaled visual quality in liquid crystal display (LCD) digital TVs. AMD’snew panel processors deliver advanced motion compensation and frame rateconversion technology for excellent image processing, resulting in a rich, immersive entertainment experience.

“The visual experience now definesthe user experience. We are committed to helping manufacturers deliver crystalclear ‘20/20 television’ to a growing mainstream market of digitalTV consumers worldwide, enabling The Ultimate Visual Experience,” saidDave Di Orio, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD’s DTV division.“AMD is driving innovation and design efficiencies with outstandingtechnology in highly integrated, flexible AMD Xilleon processor solutions, which now span from TV motherboards to display panels.”

As consumers demand ever larger TVs withgreater visual clarity, such as that offered by full high-definition (1080p)technology, the appearance of picture defects such as blurred motion, or jerkymovements referred to as “film judder”, can detract from theviewing experience and leave consumers dissatisfied with their TV purchase. This trend toward larger TVs, coupled with the global transition to digital TVbroadcasts starting with the U.S.in early 2009, has significantly increased the importance of DTV visualquality.

To help LCD TV manufacturers deliver asuperior visual experience, the

new AMD Xilleon 410, 411, 420 and 421 panelprocessor family is designed to provide unrivaled picture quality up to full HDresolution, with design flexibility to enable TV brand differentiation, andunprecedented system integration to help reduce manufacturing costs. Thisadvanced technology has been chosen by Samsung, the world’s largestprovider of thin-film-transistor, liquid crystal displays (TFT-LCD), for theirpatented 120Hz Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation (McFi™) solution.

“AMD Xilleon panel processorscustomized with Samsung proprietary McFi technology are enabling us to set whatis essentially a new industry standard for crystal clear television picturequality,” said Sang Soo Kim, Ph.D., executive vice president and Samsungfellow, Samsung Electronics. "Working closely with AMD helps us maintainour leadership position in supplying superior panel solutions to our valuedcustomers.”

AMD Xilleon panel processors offer motion compensation and frame rate conversion basedon AMD’s enhanced phase-plane correlation technology, supporting high-quality visualprocessing for 100Hz/120Hz LCD TVs up to full HD resolution. The key is theprocessor’s ability to identify incoming 24Hz/60Hz film and video signalsand convert them to 120Hz by determining motion between picture frames andintelligently creating additional content frames to represent that‘in-between’ motion with exceptional clarity. To provide greater flexibilityfor manufacturers to customize their TVs, these AMD panel processors offer ahigh degree of programmability and can be integrated into the LCD panelsubsystem or TV motherboard.

Mitsubishi MZW series 120Hz LCD TVs,which are based on Samsung’s McFi solution and the AMD Xilleon panelprocessor, are available in three panel sizes in Japan.Other leading TV manufacturers are expected to adopt AMD Xilleon panelprocessors in early 2008.About AMD XilleonProcessors

AMD is a leading provider of technologyto many of today’s popular TV brands, since its acquisition of the formerATI Technologies in late 2006. In addition to the new AMD Xilleon panel processors forLCD film and video

processing, the AMD Xilleon brand includes afamily of system-on-chip (SOC) solutions that combine digital and analog signalreception, graphics, picture processing, video decoding and multimedia fordigital television. AMD Xilleon processor SOC solutions are currently used bysuch leading manufacturers as Samsung, Mitsubishi and Westinghouse.
