Dell Virtualization Servers Featuring Quad-Core AMDOpteron(tm) Processors Now Available

-15 servers from Global OEMs now Shipping with Quad-Core AMD Opteron Processors-

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - May 8, 2008 - One of the industry's most scalablevirtualization servers is now available from Dell and based on the Quad-CoreAMD Opteron(tm) processor, AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced. Enterprise customers interested inconsolidating server infrastructure may turn to two new virtualization serversfrom Dell utilizing Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, including the DellPowerEdge R905 which set a new standard in VMmark performance testing with 60virtual machines. The innovative new Dell servers take advantage of AMD DirectConnect Architecture to reduce bottlenecks, minimize latency and increase theperformance of virtualized applications to maximize the benefits ofvirtualization.

The Dell PowerEdge R805 and R905 servers are designed to run withvirtualization software from leading ISVs, including VMware and CitrixXenServer. The result is a virtualization solution that can enable customers toconsolidate their IT infrastructure, increasing resource utilization whilehelping decrease power, cooling, and space costs.

"Energy and space constraints are requiring more enterprise customers toconsolidate while simplifying their server management requirements," saidRandy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server andWorkstation, AMD. "The combination of Direct Connect Architecture and AMDVirtualization(tm) technology helps them achieve those objectives by enabling morevirtual machines on a server than ever before. Dell's innovative serverofferings provide an optimal balance of virtualization performance andmanageability for customers looking to scale their current virtualizationinfrastructure."

AMD has been evolving the x86 architecture for virtualization since the releaseof the AMD Opteron processor five years ago. AMD Virtualization(tm) technologywith Rapid Virtualization Indexing helps enable customers running Quad-Core AMDOpteron processors to significantly improve their performance due to thesystem's ability to more easily manage memory and decrease the time"switching" between virtual machines.

"The new AMD-based Dell virtualization servers offer customers a smarterpath to virtualization," said Sally Stevens, director PowerEdge Servers,Dell Product Group. "Dell is delivering its strongest and largestportfolio ever of AMD Opteron processor-based systems that reduce IT complexityand deliver the world-class virtualization performance and overallperformance-per-watt customers have come to expect from us."
