Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor-Based Servers fromDell Achieves Top Score
for Virtualization Performance
— Top VMmark™ Benchmark Score with Quad-Core AMDOpteron™ SE Processors in Dell PowerEdge R905 Server —
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — June 18, 2008 — AMD today announced that a four-socket server from Dell withQuad-Core AMD Opteron™ SE processors has achieved the top score forvirtualization performance based on the VMmark™ benchmark from VMware. The Dell PowerEdge R905 with Quad-Core AMD Opteron SE processors notched an officialtop score for four-socket servers of 14.17 and achieved a score of 10 tiles or60 virtual machines.
“TheVMmark results on Dell’s PowerEdge 905 further solidify AMD’sposition as the industry leader in performance and performance-per-watt formulti-processor servers,” said Patrick Patla, general manager, server andworkstation business, AMD.“Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors offer customers many unique featuresthat can help deliver near native application performance on their virtualizedservers, including Rapid Virtualization Indexing (RVI.) AMDis committed to working with Dell and the industry to continue developing moreperformance indicators that demonstrate the full suite of virtualizationcapabilities, such as RVI, which are available to customers today.”
AMDVirtualization™ technology with Rapid Virtualization Indexing helpsenable customers running Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors to significantlyimprove their performance due to the system’s ability to more easilymanage memory and decrease the time “switching” between
“DellPowerEdge servers lead the industry in virtualization performance regardless ofform factor, enabling customers to reduce complexity and more effectivelysupport their virtual IT environments,” said Sally Stevens, Director ofPowerEdge Servers, Dell Product Group. “This top VMmark result forfour-socket servers is another testament to Dell and AMD’s ongoingcollaboration in providing virtualization optimized solutions that helpcustomers meet today’s increasing data center computing demands.”
Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD processors take advantage ofAMD’s unique Direct Connect Architecture to help reduce bottlenecks, minimize latency and increase the performance of virtualized applications.
